Knee pain: MRI is the Best option for Imaging |
Dear Ask The Doctor: I have already had xray and mri on my knee. was told it could be cyst or bone spur, now they want to do ultrasound should i bother??
Dear Terrill: The MRI is the most specific and accurate imaging study for the evaluation of the knee regarding menisci and ligaments injuries, but ultrasound is the study of choice when you need to determine if a mass is solid (bone spur) or if it is full of liquid (cyst). The ultrasound is going to confirm the nature of the mass, and by doing so , the doctor would decide the best treatment option that you may require. |
